Marc Márquez is leaving Repsol Honda to join Gresini in MotoGP for 2024, riding a Ducati. In the past, Jack Miller made a similar move, albeit between the satellite bikes of both manufacturers when he joined Pramac.

The Australian told the official MotoGP website that the situations are relatively similar, as the six-time champion of the premier class takes the step he believes is best for his career in terms of sportsmanship:

It’s kind of the same. […]. I went from getting paid relatively well at a satellite Honda to basically get to pay next to nothing to ride a satellite Ducati, but I could see that was my future, I could see that was the way to progress in this championship. So it was almost a gamble on myself. And what Marc is doing is obviously very similar in that sort of sense as he believes he can do well on that bike and he is going over there simply to trying and do well.

The aerodynamic solution appears to have complexity in its design, with a lot of detail, yet there’s currently no information available on its intended purpose or the benefits it may offer.

What is certain is its strikingly unusual appearance, another testament to the MotoGP’s competitive environment where creativity and innovation seemingly know no bounds.

Jack Miller, after finishing 8th in the Malaysian GP, is motivated for the Qatar GP. The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider spoke about the new state of the Losail circuit and his expectations for this weekend.

– ‘ Excited to be back at this circuit, this year at the end of the season instead of the beginning, but happy, they’ve done a good job on the conditions of the circuit and the paddock in such a short time. The bike is usually competitive here, we have some work to do, but we want to finish the season strong. I’ll try to concentrate the good work on one lap because here every lap is really long. We’ll use the data we get, from Brad and Miguel last year and from the satellite team, but at the end of the day, here in Qatar, there are a lot of variations from one day to the other.

Asked about the differences from last year that he will feel this year, Jack replied: “It will all be different, I keep asking why they didn’t make a new circuit. We know what this country can do when it wants to invest in something. For them to do what they’ve done in such a short time is impressive. We’ll be working on speed, braking and cornering on everything, basically.

Jack Miller finished Sunday’s Malaysian GP in 8th place overall. The Australian rider continues to show progress in his results and in the development of his bike, after less positive results.

The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider spoke about the race and the feelings he had during the weekend in Malaysia.

– ‘ It wasn’t the worst or the best race I’ve done. I didn’t feel like I did anything wrong, the pace was good, clearly we have a lot of work to do because the guys at the front had great pace and we finished 19 seconds or 20 behind the front group. It was difficult at the start, I couldn’t overtake Bezz and that slowed my pace a bit. My front tire heated up a lot at that stage and I had to slow down a bit and the Yamaha riders passed me, but overall I managed to save the tires for the end and have a good race. The pressure was good and I was able to ask for more from my front at the end of the race. When the pressure increases the front starts to lock up straight away and the grip disappears, but we’ll work harder and try to be stronger next weekend in Qatar.

Asked about the difference in his riding style in terms of managing tire pressure, Jack replied: ‘We need to work on that more, in the last corner I had no grip at all, as soon as I touched the throttle I couldn’t accelerate, but we’ll work on that, I was trying to improve everything I could, but I was always struggling to have grip, especially when I had the Ducati around me I was always trying to find the best trajectory. This weekend we had a good bike, we were riding at a good pace all weekend, I liked the bike, but unfortunately today we lost almost a second a lap’.

Enea Bastianini is back! The dark days are over and the “Beast” is back winning in MotoGP, and with a great performance at the Malaysian GP, with the Italian on the factory Ducati taking the lead on the first lap and beating a highly motivated Álex Márquez and the duo of title contenders, Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martín.

One more race, 11 points separating Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martín and one more “take” in the fight for the championship. All set for the start in Sepang!

Martín got off to a good start and in the first corner looked to be the leader, but it was Enea Bastianini who took the lead, with Álex Márquez coming in second, Bagnaia and Martín in third and fourth respectively. Marco Bezzecchi was fifth, with Jack Miller in sixth being the fastest of the Ducati riders, with Fabio Quartararo in seventh.

At the end of the second lap there was the first real glimpse of the most anticipated duel, with Martín briefly reaching the podium places by beating Bagnaia, who responded immediately and returned to his fight.

And it was here that the fight for the title came to a head, with Martín repeating his attack shortly afterwards, with the result being the same: Bagnaia was leading on two occasions.

Meanwhile, on the following lap, Joan Mir “led” Honda to a record 50 crashes in one year, with the #36 having its 23rd in 2023. Despite the crash, Mir looked physically fine.

The race was approaching its first third and Bastianini was leading by 0.7s over A. Márquez. Bagnaia was 2.090s behind and Martín, who had lost a lot of time to the Italian, was 3.002s off the front.

Miguel Oliveira was the next to fall, with five laps completed, and Raúl Fernández soon followed. Total disaster for the CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team.

With 12 laps to go, this was the top ten:

And don’t think Aprilia’s nightmare could end there! Aleix Espargaró had his third crash of the weekend and went down, but he got back on his bike and into the race and quickly put wildcard Álvaro Bautista – 19th – under the microscope… for a short time. The spaniard even finished the race soon afterwards and there were three Aprilia riders out of four who retred in total.

With the race officially halfway over, Bastianini led by 1s over A. Márquez, with the top five unchanged. Among the non-Ducati bikes, Jack Miller was still ahead of Quartararo, who was threatening to move up to sixth at any moment.

About a minute later, KTM suffered a setback: Quartararo beat Miller and Brad Binder crashed at turn 12.

The race was in a tricky phase, with some riders making crucial mistakes: now it was Takaaki Nakagami who crashed.

With six laps to go, 1.336s was the gap between Bastianini and Márquez. With the top four separated by 6.025s, eyes focussed on one of the “new” battles on track, with Bezzecchi having 0.4s on Quartararo, who quickly brought the gap down to 0.1s.

Quartararo had climbed into the top five: the French Yamaha rider was also joined by Franco Morbidelli, ninth, in the top ten.

Four laps to go and the feeling was that little could change: Bastianini was 1.412s ahead of A. Márquez, while Bagnaia was 1.807s ahead of Martín.

Confirmation was soon forthcoming and Bastianini was back to great results in MotoGP: it was the Italian’s first win as a factory rider.

As for the championship battle, there are now 14 points between Bagnaia and Martín.

Jack Miller is competing in the Malaysian MotoGP this weekend, marking the first time he races on a track where he has previously been with Red Bull KTM. The bike has changed since the tests last February, but the rider is confident in a strong performance in Sepang.

The Australian said to the journalists that he is expecting a good performance: ‘I’m looking forward to it. I think it’s the first GP track for me on the KTM. I’m looking forward to see how we get on. It should be a good weekend, it’s a place I like and I think it’s a place where the bike can do really well. And we are back on the normal rear tyre again’.

Despite the changes to the KTM RC16 since the test, Miller emphasized that the bike was already good at that time, and the foundation remains: ‘At the end of the day, the chassis changed obviously, but it’s not three seconds a lap – it’s more a rider feeling kind of thing more than anything. So, at the end of the day it’s not black and white, night and day. It’s micro adjustments here and there. The base package was already very competitive at the beginning of the year here and I think coming back and racing it will be right. And for sure having the data from the test at the beginning of the year you will always looking at that’.

KTM has already announced Pedro Acosta as a rider for GasGas Tech3 in MotoGP in 2024, but rumors continue to circulate about his possible promotion to the premier class with the Red Bull KTM team.

According to SPEEDWEEK.com, the possibility of the Spanish rider moving directly to the factory team may not be entirely ruled out. If this were to happen, Jack Miller would move to GasGas Tech3. Given Acosta’s strong results in Moto2, the German publication questions: ‘Will the Pierer Group stick to the plan and continue with [Brad] Binder and Miller at Red Bull KTM? Or could Pedro Acosta be transferred to the KTM Factory Team instead of Miller?’.

Pit Beirer, KTM’s Motorsports Director, appears to deny this possibility, stating: ‘Miller is planned for KTM, and Acosta for GasGas’.

Despite these statements, it wouldn’t be the first time KTM promoted a rider directly from Moto2 to their factory team, as was the case with Brad Binder in 2020. The Austrian team is well aware of Acosta’s talent and potential, so much so that the Director, Hubert Trunkenpolz, referred to him as the ‘new Marc Márquez’ this summer.

For now, any scenario that puts Acosta in Red Bull KTM and Miller in GasGas Tech3 in 2024 remains pure speculation. However, given that the Australian rider has struggled to meet expectations in his first season, and Acosta is seen as a precious talent for the future, such a swap would not be entirely out of the question, despite the official announcements already made.

The Aussie rider from Red Bull KTM said quoted by the website Grande Prêmio: ‘I can’t find a way to make things work. It wasn’t like this before. It’s a moment where we’re scratching our heads looking for solutions. I’m lacking a bit of corner speed; I couldn’t get close to one of the Yamaha bikes. Either I go on a lettuce diet this week, or we find the potential of the bike. A bit of both would be good

With three rounds remaining, Miller has 144 points and is currently in tenth place in the premier class standings.

A result that Francesco Guidotti considered to be ‘strong’ in a day that luck didn’t stick with his rider. As for Jack Miller, the team might have missed on what it gave to the rider.

The Team Manager of Red Bull KTM started of by analysing the #33’s sunday race: ‘An amazing race, and an amazing race for the win by Brad with a strong result. Unluckily he touched the green zone on the last lap so he had to drop one position but he did so well to push all the way inside the top three. We really enjoyed it. We’re already looking forward to the next race with a lot of confidence’.

As for Miller, who finished outisde of the points, the italian added: ‘A different story with Jack as we just couldn’t give him the setting he needed with the special tire allocation here. For sure there is still work to do’.

In an interview with AMCN, the Australian emphasized that he has been performing well in his debut season with the RC16, so he hasn’t really been concerned about what was being said:

– I’ve had a couple of podiums if you include the Sprint races and some really decent results in, what, just 11 races on this bike. And I’m the one that’s meant to be going home for half the season next year. The only thing I can work out now is it’s the only thing that’ll get their websites clicks, so that’s the reason why they put it in there. I couldn’t really give a shit.
