A lot of news about Toprak Razgatlioglu’s future have been brought up in the past few years and more earlier this season but the WSBK star decided to make a surprising change at the championship, after moving from Yamaha to BMW. However, the turkish is focused on the challenges that are coming in the next two seasons but doesn’t say no to talks after that.

Razgatlioglu has shown interest or at least curiosity about MotoGP but only at the service of a factory team and, given the lattest events towards 2024 with Honda still looking for a rider to officially replace Marc Marquez, and the fact they have publicly said that they have contacted some riders. And apparently their network of contacts might have gone further than the world championship of the category.

The turkish spoke to Dorna and revelead that a MotoGP approached him, but didn’t revelead which. Considering the current state of the paddock, it could have (easily)… been Honda:

– I have been approached by a MotoGP team, but I am now tied to the BMW Superbike factory team for two years until the end of 2025. After that, we can talk about MotoGP contracts.

The manufacturer spoke to some riders, like Miguel Oliveira or Fabio Di Giannantonio, but apparently the one who will take the #93’s place is Luca Marini. Official confirmation is yet to be known.

Toprak Razgatlioglu has decided to embark on a new chapter in his World Superbike Championship career in 2024 by joining BMW. Earlier this year, he had the opportunity to move to MotoGP with Yamaha, but even after testing the bike, it became clear that this transition wouldn’t be possible for the upcoming season.

Andrea Dosoli, the Yamaha WSBK team manager, explained that the Turkish rider was already looking for a new professional challenge, and MotoGP could have been just that. However, when he realized that the transition wouldn’t be possible now, he looked for something else: ‘Even before the Jerez test with MotoGP, Toprak was looking for a new challenge, and MotoGP could have represented exactly that. But when he realized that the transition wouldn’t be possible right away, he looked for something else. All great athletes are always looking for new challenges’.

Quoted in GPOne.com, Dosoli expressed understanding for Razgatlioglu, who, in his words, displayed good potential during the MotoGP bike test: ‘In my opinion, he showed all his talent during the test, and I have no doubt he could have performed well there too. But when he realized he wouldn’t have a seat in MotoGP immediately, he looked for other challenges, and that’s normal in the lives of all athletes. I would say we have one here, and that’s [Jonathan] Rea’.

Andrea Dosoli, Yamaha’s team manager, explained, as quoted by the GPOne.com website, that they couldn’t reach an agreement with the rider for the test:

We all understand the advantages for a manufacturer and a rider to be able to conduct a test, and we also understand what we are talking about, being able to test calmly with Jonathan Rea. We discussed with Toprak to find a solution, but unfortunately, it was not possible to reach an agreement. However, there was an attempt to get him to the test. There was an openness under certain conditions.

The battle for the win in the final race of the World Superbike Championship season was breath-taking, with a lot of excitement provided by Álvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Ducati) and Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha).

Despite the title being secured by the Spaniard the day before, neither of the two riders wanted to end the season without one last victory – especially Razgatlioglu, who bid farewell to his team.

It was the Turkish rider who came out on top in this intense battle. According to the official WSBK social media, from the tenth lap onwards, there were 38 passes between Razgatlioglu and Bautista before everything was decided. These impressive numbers illustrate the competitiveness at the top of the championship and already anticipate new battles in 2024.

According to SPEEDWEEK.com, the 2021 champion would have had to wear a leather suit with no logos and could not speak to the press about comparisons between Yamaha and BMW bikes until the contract with the Japanese manufacturer ceases at the end of November.

Razgatlioglu did not liked these demands, and as a result, he is expected to make his debut with BMW from December 4 to 6 in Jerez, once the contract with Yamaha has already expired.

Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha) overtook him on the way to turn one, but positioned himself right in front of Lowes’ bike, and the British rider couldn’t avoid to hit the rear wheel with his helmet. He suffered some abrasions on his face as a result.

The Kawasaki rider stated, as quoted on SPEEDWEEK.com, that he doesn’t think it was a clean maneuver: ‘Toprak passed me in the first corner and I felt it wasn’t a clean manoeuvre. It doesn’t look like it from the outside, but the way he got in front of me and delayed, he didn’t give me any room’.

While acknowledging his luck in avoiding more serious injuries, Lowes also refrained from making extensive criticisms of Razgatlioglu: ‘I don’t want to complain about the action because I like the way he rides […]. Still, it’s a shame about the crash and I was lucky to get away with it. The impact was violent. Now I have a few stitches around my eyes and quite a lot of swelling on my face’.

The British rider from Kawasaki was in front of his rival, and the Turkish rider from Pata Yamaha overtook him on the way to turn one. He placed his bike right next to the front wheel of Lowes, who was taken by surprise and couldn’t avoid making contact with the rear wheel of the YZF-R1 with his head.

The crash resulted in a fall and damage to the visor of the helmet, but #22 escaped potentially serious injuries in a bizarre incident that could have had much graver consequences.

The Superbike World Championship came to an end yesterday, with the last round to take place at Jerez. If there was one thing that wasn’t missing was, for sure, emotion and whoever watched the second race for sure didn’t even blinked, as Alvaro Bautista and Toprak Razgatlioglu delivered another superb thriller race.

For the second time world champion in the class, this season, just like the weekend at Spain, was amazing: ‘I think it’s been a practically perfect season as well as this last weekend. We have won all the titles and I am very happy for the team. For me it was an even bigger emotion. To win in front of so many fans and my family, was great’.

His main rival on the championship was Razgatlioglu, who once again battled with him until the very last second: ‘In Race 2 I had a lot of fun, the duel with Toprak was fantastic: we fought in every corner but always in a fair way. I think everyone who saw the race got emotional’.

The is now, to party: ‘Now it’s time to celebrate even though from tomorrow we will start thinking about testing on Tuesday and Wednesday and the MotoGP Wild Card in Malaysia. The season is not over yet‘.

In a surprising turn of events in the MotoGP, Honda has given the green light for Marc Marquez to test ride the Ducati. This decision comes amidst the ongoing speculations and discussions about Marquez’s future in the championship and his recent switch to the Ducati team.

On the other hand, Yamaha has taken a more conservative approach with their star rider, Toprak Razgatlioglu. The Japanese manufacturer has explicitly forbidden Razgatlioglu from getting close to or testing the BMW. This move by Yamaha underscores the competitive nature of the MotoGP championship and the strategic decisions teams make to protect their interests and secrets.

The contrasting decisions by Honda and Yamaha have sparked discussions in the MotoGP community. While Honda’s decision to allow Marquez to test the Ducati might be seen as a sign of confidence in their rider and machinery, Yamaha’s decision indicates a more protective stance, possibly due to the competitive edge they believe their machine holds.

It’s worth noting that rider switches and the subsequent testing of new machinery are not uncommon in MotoGP. However, the timing and circumstances surrounding these decisions can often lead to speculations and debates among fans and experts.

As the MotoGP season progresses, it will be interesting to see how these decisions impact the performance and dynamics within the teams and the championship as a whole.

What an absolutely thrilling end to the Superbike season in Jerez! Álvaro Bautista and Toprak Razgatligolu put on a real show for more than half the race, with both sharing the lead several times. In the end, victory went to Bautista, even though Razgatlioglu crossed the finish line first, but was penalised for touching the green part of the track; Jonathan Rea crashed when he was in the lead and had an inglorious but dignified farewell.

With the title decisions already settled, today was still an intense day due to the farewells and changes that would take place in 2023. Today marked the farewell of Jonathan Rea with Kawasaki, the manufacturer with which he won 6 titles, with Toprak Razgatlioglu also being one of the highlights, he who is going to BMW, not forgetting Michael Rinaldi, who is leaving Ducati.

Bautista got off to a good start, but it was Rea who moved into the lead during the first lap, with Razga temporarily in third, even before he took second place in the race.

After three laps Rea was still in the lead with a lead of almost 1s over Razgatlioglu, Bautista completed the top three, while Dominique Aegerter and Andrea Locatelli rounded off the top five.

Then, completely unexpectedly, Rea crashed when he was in the lead. The Briton lost the front of his motorbike at turn 2, but eventually got back on his bike and into the race.

Razgatlioglu thus took the lead of the race and was once again prepared to be opposed by Bautista in the fight for the race lead, in a battle so often seen this year in the category. The Turk had a 0.9s lead over the world champion.

There was still one title to be decided today, the team title, and with Razgatlioglu leading the way the title was provisionally for Pata Yamaha.

Rea, on this very special day, after riding last, had already beaten Oliver Konig and Florian Alt, and was preparing to overtake Leandro Mercado as well, something that happened shortly afterwards.

Bautista was back in the lead, but the Turk responded and took the lead again. The #1 didn’t want to be left behind and took the lead again… only to lose it again, then go back to the front… only to be left behind. The race was half over, with the front duo swapping places again and again.

The exchange of arguments between the two riders continued over the next few laps and at this stage it was impossible to guess who would emerge as the winner of this battle. Rinaldi took advantage of this duel to gradually gain time, in third place, but only 0.310s behind the leader. Razgatlioglu was getting the better of Bautista.

Rea continued to grow, already in 17th, after overtaking a few other riders, including Gabriele Ruiu, Hafizh Syahrin and Loris Baz.

Rinaldi, after a long time in third, fell behind in the race and it was Aegerter who reached the podium again.

The race ended shortly afterwards, with Razgatlioglu crossing the finish line in first place:

But… he was penalised one position and the win went to Bautista:
