After the Repsol Honda possibility fell through, Fermin Aldeguer’s future may well still to have MotoGP at the end of the tunnel, but at the wheel of a Desmosedici. The Mooney VR46 Racing Team seems to be the main candidate to sign the rider, but there are other names on the table.

Although there has been no official confirmation, everything suggests that the deal has been finalised between Honda and Luca Marini, which leaves an open MotoGP seat in Valentino Rossi’s team.

About two days ago Uccio Salucci admitted that the #10 would not be with the team next year, and even admitted that he would be interested in securing a rider for the vacancy from Moto2: ‘When you lose a rider like Marini in november, it’s difficult. We have to discuss and talk to the different teams. Our option isn’t just Aldeguer, there are more riders and teams. Tony Arbolino is an option. I like Tony, he’s fast and he’s Italian. He’s another name, but he’s not the only one. We’ll see in the next four days’.

The italian team headmaster even spoke about Pramac’s alleged interest in the 18-year-old Beta Tools SpeedUp rider, speaking to Sky, while guaranteeing that Valentino Rossi’s team had already made an initial enquiry: ‘Pramac’s interest in Aldeguer? I understand them very well. He’s talented. I’m sorry to talk about a rider who has a contract with another team, it’s not our style, but this also happens in sport. For now, we’ve just had a chat, but we’ll be able to get to the heart of things soon’.

The rider himself spoke to DAZN about the alleged interest, which is nothing new to him: ‘I’ve heard that it’s a possible option, but nothing has been decided yet. It doesn’t just depend on me, on my decision, but also on the decision of my current team and Mooney VR46’.

What is certain is that with only one MotoGP seat open at the moment, it’s likely that Aldeguer will take it, which leaves Fabio Di Giannantonio’s future in the class in doubt, as he has been one of the standout riders over the last two rounds (including the Qatar GP).

Fermín Aldeguer won again, this time at the Qatar GP in Moto2. It’s the third consecutive victory for the Spanish rider, who is having an almost perfect end to the season to fight for the final championship podium.

The top two got off to a good start, with Joe Roberts (Italtrans Racing Team/Kalex) keeping the lead and Celestino Vietti (Fantic Racing/Kalex) in second place. Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) was in third, but was soon overtaken by Arón Canet (Pons Wegow Los40/Kalex) in the first lap.

The #40 overtook Vietti to move into second place, while Roberts had managed to secure a lead of around two-tenths of a second. However, in the second lap, Aldeguer widened his trajectory and dropped to ninth. Jake Dixon (Inde GasGas Aspar/Kalex) then moved up to fourth position.

A change in leadership occurred in the second lap, with Canet overtaking Roberts. Vietti started losing ground, and Dixon moved up to third, followed by Manuel González (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team/Kalex) in fourth and Aldeguer in fifth. With 12 laps to go, Dixon passed Roberts and became Canet’s main pursuer… but not for long. The American lost his position to Aldeguer.

Aldeguer continued to advance, overtaking Dixon and Canet in the following laps to become the new leader. Dixon lost his podium positions when he was passed by González in the 11th lap. The Spaniard was determined to go further and, with five laps to go, moved into second place. At that time, Aldeguer led by almost two seconds, and not even a new race record lap by González could challenge him.

At the front, Aldeguer was never caught, securing his third consecutive win. The battle for second place was intense, with González resisting Canet’s pressure… crossing the finish line with a 0.009s lead. Ai Ogura (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex) and Dixon completed the top five. The already-crowned champion Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) finished no higher than eighth.

Fermín Aldeguer once again led the third practice session of the Moto2 Qatar GP, being on the top position in all Losail sessions so far and establishing himself as a strong contender. A significant number of riders improved in Saturday’s session.

Manuel González (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team/Kalex) held the fastest time after the first flying laps and confirmed the position with his second attempt… before being overtaken by Aldeguer.

The Beta Tools SpeedUp rider held the lead for about seven minutes before being overtaken by González, who stayed at the top for nearly a quarter of an hour until Joe Roberts (Italtrans Racing Team/Kalex) beat him.

Towards the end, Aldeguer clocked the fastest time of the practice with 1m57.895s, leaving the American 0.192s behind. Jake Dixon (Inde GasGas Aspar/Kalex) secured third place, trailing by 0.308s, followed by González and the surprising Lukas Tulovic (Liqui Moly Husqvarna IntactGP/Kalex). Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex), who is already the champion, settled for eighth place.

In the combined standings of the three practices, Arón Canet (Pons Wegow Los40/Kalex) claimed third position, despite not improving from yesterday, with Dixon in fourth and González in fifth. Acosta landed in 11th, and Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex) secured the final spot to advance directly into the second qualifying by finishing 14th, with an 18-millisecond advantage over Marcos Ramírez (OnlyFans American Racing/Kalex).

Following a strong performance in the first practice, Manuel González (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team/Kalex) began this session at the top, ahead of Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex), setting the best time of the day at that point. The Spaniard was later overtaken by Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) and Arón Canet (Pons Wegow Los40/Kalex). However, he reclaimed the lead with his third flying lap.

With 24 minutes left, Arbolino clocked a time identical to González’s, resulting in a tie for the lead. Meanwhile, Sam Lowes (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex) held third. The trio was overtaken by Jake Dixon (Inde GasGas Aspar/Kalex), but Lowes improved to secure the second spot.

Lap times continued to drop, and the next rider to claim the top position was Canet, later overtaken by Lowes. The fastest times came in the session’s final phase, with Aldeguer standing out by setting a new record: 1m58.059s. Canet improved but settled for second, 0.104s behind, with Lowes in third. The good period of the season continues for Fermín Aldeguer. The Spanish rider clearly led the way in the opening session of the Qatar Moto2 Grand Prix, which just concluded moments ago at Losail.

Barry Baltus (Fieten Olie Racing GP/Kalex) surprised by being the initial leader of the session, setting a time in the 2m07s range. The already crowned champion Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) initially held second place. He surpassed Baltus but was then overtaken by Arón Canet (Pons Wegow Los40/Kalex), Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro), and Manuel González (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team/Kalex)… who became the new leader.

With 25 minutes remaining, González was dethroned, with Aldeguer topping the timesheets. At the same time, Acosta dropped back to third, only to be surpassed shortly after by Baltus. The Spaniard managed to secure third place moments later, with Jeremy Alcoba (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex) rising to fourth.

The top positions remained stable. Significant changes occurred within the last ten minutes, with Acosta moving into first place, being 0.142s quicker than Aldeguer. However, González then surpassed the champion before being overtaken by Aldeguer, who regained the lead.

Around the same time, Alex Escrig (Forward Racing) surprised by setting a time that placed him in fourth. González was the first to clock a time in the 2m01s range to lead again, while Aldeguer could only match that pace later, surpassing his rival by 0.232s. Towards the end, Aldeguer improved once more, securing the lead, with González in second at 0.343s. Jake Dixon (Inde GasGas Aspar/Kalex) finished third, with Acosta in fourth. Escrig completed the top five.

Pedro Acosta is the new Moto2 World Champion. Second place was more than enough for him to clinch the title this Sunday in a race completely dominated by Fermín Aldeguer.

Manuel González (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team/Kalex) had a good start and even took the lead but crashed in turn two after a contact with Fermín Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro). Almost miraculously, he escaped without any harm. Aldeguer took the lead ahead of Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex).

In third place was Marcos Ramírez (OnlyFans American Racing/Kalex). Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex) needed at least a top-three finish to stay in the title fight and was in a distant seventh place. The Italian faced even more challenges on the second lap when he went off track and dropped down the pack.

Meanwhile, there was a notification that the incident between Aldeguer and González was under investigation. Indifferent to that, Aldeguer continued to lead solidly and by the fourth lap had almost a three-second lead over Acosta. In a race with little drama for the top positions, Aldeguer continued to distance himself from Acosta, who, in turn, was also isolated, not giving Ramírez any chance to close the gap.

In fourth place was Alonso López (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro), with Ai Ogura (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex) in fifth. Some riders who were fighting in the top five fell due to crashes, such as Arón Canet (Pons Wegow Los40/Kalex), Celestino Vietti (Fantic Racing/Kalex), and Izan Guevara (Inde GasGas Aspar/Kalex). In the podium positions, nothing changed until the end, although Ogura finished pressuring the third-placed rider.

Aldeguer continued to extend his lead and won with a margin of 7.128s over Acosta, who thus became the champion. Ramírez completed the top three, holding off Ogura by just 0.434s. Jake Dixon (Inde GasGas Aspar/Kalex) finished fifth. López plummeted in the standings on the last lap, finishing in 22nd place. As for Arbolino, he concluded in tenth.

The standings changed with the second lap of Celestino Vietti (Fantic Racing/Kalex), placing him in second. However, Aldeguer kept a gap of over half a second. Fermín Aldeguer ended with the best time in the practice sessions for the Moto2 Malaysian GP. The third session, held on Saturday in Sepang, was the one where almost all riders set their best lap times, despite two interruptions with red flags.

The first neutralization occurred early on, following a heavy crash by Izan Guevara (Inde GasGas Aspar/Kalex) in turn three when no rider had set a timed lap.

After the red flag, Alonso López (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) was the fastest, returning to the top of the table with his next lap after Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) and Filip Salac (QJMotor Gresini/Moto2) led for a while.

Next, Somkiat Chantra (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex) took the lead, which he held when the second red flag came out. This was caused by a nasty crash by Darryn Binder (Liqui Moly Husqvarna IntactGP/Kalex) in turn one, which even required repairing the air-fence barriers, causing a lengthy neutralization.

When the session resumed, for another 17 minutes, Chantra stayed in front until, in the final minutes, Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) began a sequence of three fast laps that put him in the lead. The Spaniard overtook the Japanese rider by 0.546s with a lap time of 2m05.319s. Jake Dixon (Inde GasGas Aspar/Kalex) was third, with Acosta in fourth, and Arón Canet (Pons Wegow Los40/Kalex) in fifth.

In terms of direct qualification for the second qualifying, Manuel González (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team/Kalex) secured the last spot with the 14th time of the session and in the combined of the three practices. Albert Arenas (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex), in 15th, missed out on Q2 by 0.041s. Among others who will have to go through Q1 is Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex), the only one who can prevent Acosta from becoming champion tomorrow.

Fermín Aldeguer was speculated last week as a strong candidate for the seat left by Marc Márquez at Repsol Honda in MotoGP in 2024. However, the current Moto2 rider is not among the options.

This is the guarantee from the team manager, Alberto Puig, who on Friday denied to DAZN that the young Spaniard is being considered, stating that he has already asked the rider’s manager for an explanation:

No, I don’t know where that came from. It is 100 percent false. Yesterday I spoke to Aldeguer’s manager and asked him where this came from, and he didn’t know what to say.

Fermín Aldeguer has been linked to Repsol Honda in MotoGP for 2024, but he shows total focus on Moto2. This Friday, he led the first practice of the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang.

Throughout the 40-minute session, it was almost always a Spanish rider holding the best time. After the initial laps, the leader was Manuel González (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team/Kalex), who was overtaken by Alonso López (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) before regaining the position… only to lose it again, this time to Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex).

González reacted immediately to return to the top of the time sheet, where he stayed for over 20 minutes until being overtaken by Acosta again. The championship leader was dethroned by Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro). However, he lost the position to Jake Dixon (Inde GasGas Aspar/Kalex) less than a minute later.

In his penultimate lap, Aldeguer clocked a time of 2m06.183s to definitively take the first place, being 60 thousandths of a second faster than Dixon. Acosta finished third, 0.455s behind, with the top five closed by Ai Ogura (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex) and Dennis Foggia (Italtrans Racing Team/Honda). Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex), who seeks to keep the title fight open, started the Grand Prix with the 13th place in this opening practice.

In the final minutes, there was a scary crash involving Sean Dylan Kelly, but the Forward Team rider managed to get up, albeit somewhat shaken.
