After having a very very positive weekend that marked the second win of the season for Alex Marquez, the rider is now looking forward to be more consistent and sees this as an objective more than anything else.

‘We are very confident, it’s been a dream weekend, Thailand, the Sprint, this sunday’s second place’, the youngest of the Marquez brothers said before speaking of what is his main wish for the moment:

– But our goal is to settle in the top 5, because if we want to improve and race more we can have problems. The most important thing right now is to look for that consistency.

Up until now, the Gresini rider has two wins and two podiums as best results.

Joan Mir once again had a race in Sepang this sunday that will certainly not go down well in his memory. With only four laps completed, nine minutes after the start, the spaniard crashed and brought his participation to an early end, and he was upset, but not forgetting that the manufacturer has a lot of room for improvement.

After the long race at the Malaysian Grand Prix, the spaniard spoke to reporters at the scene and guaranteed that despite his season he won’t give up: ‘It’s hard for me to come to the press and tell the same story over and over again, but even if I keep crashing, I won’t give up’.

Confidence for the future is high for the former world champion, although Mir recognises that there is a lot of work ahead: ‘The margin for improvement for Honda next year is huge, they have a lot of work to do’.

Mir is currently 22nd in the championship with 24 points and has 23 crashes this year, four less than his teammate Marc Marquez.

After the Malaysian GP where he was in top form, Alex Marquez went one step further and called it his best so far before admitting that he expects ‘something similar’ at the next GP in a week’s time.

After the round on Malaysian soil, the Gresini rider was very happy with his performance: ‘It was my best weekend in MotoGP. I think it can be compared to Aragon 2020. This sunday I wanted to «dance» with the bike, but I could only do it for the first few laps, then it said no, that it was better to stay still’.

The spaniard then turned his attention to the next round at Losail, where he admitted that he wants (and expects) a similar performance, as well as some doubts… due to the asphalt:

– In Qatar, I think we can expect something similar. But I don’t know, because it’s a new tarmac, a dirty track and a time when we don’t normally go there. You have to understand a lot of things, but something strange always happens.

The return of Alvaro Bautista to MotoGP, despite briefly as a wilcard, didn’t go in the best way due to… WSBK Tests. The spaniard was prior to this GP works on his bike testing at erez and got injured, resulting in lack of strength on one of his arms, messing up his ability to perform.

After sunday’s race, Bautista revelead he wasn’t at his best shape: ‘You know we are a bit stubborn and we try to fight against everything. In the Jerez test I had a bit of a nasty crash. I hit my neck and I haven’t had any symptoms of pain or anything special. Since I got on the bike on Friday I had no strength in my arm and the problem is that it hasn’t gone any better’.

This led the two time Superbike champion not to enjoy at Sepang as much as he would have wanted, and planned, as it messed his performance on the bike: ‘I feel bad because I didn’t enjoy the weekend as much as I could have. In fact, if you look at my telemetry data compared to other riders I was no longer at their level in the left-hand corners and I got at least six 7, 10 tenths under braking’.

And concluded: ‘Bad weekend. Not because of the result, far from it, but because I could not enjoy at any time or ride at ease. Although I’ve been saying yes, the reality was that I was fucked up’.

Fabio Quartararo was Yamaha’s best man at the Malaysian GP and got again on the five fastest riders on track. He wasted a lot of time until reaching and overtaking Jack Miller, he considered, and recalled that, only when opponents are having issues with the tyres, he gets to overtake.

The french looked at his race, and regretted the time lost until he got to reach the top five: ‘The start was better than on saturday and that was important. Unfortunately I spent a lot of time behind Jack Miller and that cost me a lot of time. I don’t think that would have made for a better final result, but I think we could have finished a lot closer to the top 4’, quoted on Canal+.

Even so the results left the rider happy, with him already looking at something similar in Losail: ‘Still, we’re satisfied with the result and I hope that for Qatar we’ll be able to make another top 5. But … Unfortunately, as always, we’re finding it hard to overtake; you can only overtake when they’ve simply run out of tyres. We’ve managed to manage things better, but I think it’s important that until the last race, Yamaha look carefully at where we need to improve’.

And looked at the overall picture: ‘We finished 15 seconds behind the leader, which is no mean feat either and even though I think we rode a very good race, we’re 15 seconds behind the leader and that hurts. So the result is very important – a top 5 finish was really the aim, but now we need to find a solution to get a lot closer and more consistent’.

Álex Márquez was one of the leading figures at the Malaysian GP, where he took victory and second place. One of the best at Sepang, he praised the winner of the long race, and how this race wasn’t the most interesting for fans of the sport.

Analysing his round, the rider began by saying: ‘It was a very positive weekend. We’ve been working hard to get these front positions, as we’ve seen these weekends. The results have been there, both with Fabio [Quartararo] last week and this weekend, we’re there’.

However, the spaniard didn’t have the pace to beat Enea Bastianini, whom he praised, also admitting that he still «lacks», as well as a curiosity about the fight for the podium in the Sprint: ‘I tried with Enea, because at the front it goes better, at the back the tyre heats up and being at 0’5 is fighting against a wall, because suddenly you go to 0’7, 0’8 and back to 0’5. We can’t complain about a second, we’re still a bit short of fighting for the win. But this weekend has given us wings to keep fighting. I knew Enea was going to be dangerous today, he’s a rider who goes for the feeling a lot. If he does a good lap, the race will go well for him. I also met him at the clinic and asked him straight away if he was going to fight, he laughed and that told me everything. On saturday, in the Sprint, he admitted that he didn’t attack Pecco Bagnaia in case there was a problem’.

Regarding the race itself on sunday, he admitted that it wasn’t necessarily the most exciting: ‘From the outside, it looked like a slow and boring race, a train race. But when it’s so hot, you have to manage everything very well, because a mistake becomes a mistake and you ruin everything. For me, there were two laps too many. But that made up for the Sprint, which is much more fun’.

At their home GP, this was certainly far from being the best round for CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team as Miguel Oliveira first, and Raul Fernandez right after got to retire from the main race. Razlan Razali was «a bit» upset with how things have gone for the team.

‘Well I really don’t know where to begin, but the feeling that we are having right now, we are extremely disappointed, frustrated and also angry about the results today. Again, this is the third DNFs for the team, and for it to occur at my home Grand Prix, it’s very difficult to accept. But it is what it is and we have to move to the next final two races’, the Founder and Team Principal began to say when reviewing the day for the team.

Already looking for the next couple of races, the malaysian wants to bounce back and assure the team won’t stop giving their best to return to the good results:

– As a team, we really need to figure out what went wrong, find a solution together with Aprilia, work extremely hard to do the best for our riders at least for the final two races, and the best that we can hope for is to maintain in eighth position at the end of the championship. We now prepare for the Valencia test and for a better season in 2024. We’re sorry to disappoint all our fans especially our Portuguese, Spanish and Malaysian fans, it’s not the result that we hoped for but we will not give up, we will move forward and come back stronger for Qatar.

Jack Miller finished Sunday’s Malaysian GP in 8th place overall. The Australian rider continues to show progress in his results and in the development of his bike, after less positive results.

The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider spoke about the race and the feelings he had during the weekend in Malaysia.

– ‘ It wasn’t the worst or the best race I’ve done. I didn’t feel like I did anything wrong, the pace was good, clearly we have a lot of work to do because the guys at the front had great pace and we finished 19 seconds or 20 behind the front group. It was difficult at the start, I couldn’t overtake Bezz and that slowed my pace a bit. My front tire heated up a lot at that stage and I had to slow down a bit and the Yamaha riders passed me, but overall I managed to save the tires for the end and have a good race. The pressure was good and I was able to ask for more from my front at the end of the race. When the pressure increases the front starts to lock up straight away and the grip disappears, but we’ll work harder and try to be stronger next weekend in Qatar.

Asked about the difference in his riding style in terms of managing tire pressure, Jack replied: ‘We need to work on that more, in the last corner I had no grip at all, as soon as I touched the throttle I couldn’t accelerate, but we’ll work on that, I was trying to improve everything I could, but I was always struggling to have grip, especially when I had the Ducati around me I was always trying to find the best trajectory. This weekend we had a good bike, we were riding at a good pace all weekend, I liked the bike, but unfortunately today we lost almost a second a lap’.

Today was a less happy day for Brad Binder, and a lot of it was due to… too much speed. The South African had problems slowing down his bike, which made it difficult for him to enter corners, but he emphasised at the end that this situation served as another learning experience for the team.

Analysing his day, the KTM rider spoke about the Warm Up and how he believed he had solved some less positive situations, something that didn’t come true one race later: ‘Today was a somewhat complicated race. In the Warm Up we tried a few things that worked very well […]. In the race I struggled to stop the bike in all the braking zones, and I felt that I was never able to slow down and if you don’t brake well you don’t turn well, and today the thing I struggled with the most was the constant loss of the front of the bike. It was difficult to manage at first, I tried to be patient, to understand what was going on and whether it would get better during the race, but I didn’t get that far…’.

Binder then explained that the failure was crucial: ‘I ended up tucking the front of the bike after nine or ten laps and that was basically the end of the day, there’s not much to say. Already yesterday we had a lot of locking coming from the rear of the bike, the engine braking didn’t work well or at least it wasn’t working as well as we would have liked […]’.

The high temperature on the tarmac was a determining factor: ‘With the track temperature at 20ºC it doesn’t seem to work and it complicated everything, but I think it was a good learning day for us. We know which way to go when things don’t work as well as they did here’.
