One of the most talked about names in the MotoGP paddock lately has been that of Luca Marini, given the imminent confirmation that his future will be with Honda. However, the Italian assures us there is no news, with the important thing being the current moment at the Qatar GP, where he sees three manufacturers potentially being very competitive:
The Mooney VR46 Racing Team rider began by talking about the news linking him to Honda: ‘The situation is the same as it was on sunday (in Sepang) after the race. I can’t say anything because there’s nothing to say apart from what I’ve already told you, but for me it’s not an easy situation and maybe for your work it’s even worse’.
He then made it clear that his focus has to be on the current race weekend, where he sees Aprilia and KTM as potential contenders for victory, as well as Ducati:
– I’m waiting like all of you and I think the best thing is to focus on this GP and get a good result, try to get a good result here. Ducati is very strong here and is winning races every year and this could be a good race for us too. It’s not going to be easy because everyone is in great shape: Jorge [Martín] and Pecco [Bagnaia] are fighting for the championship and will also fight for the win in this race, and I also hope to see KTM and Aprilia working very well because with the resurfacing of the track the situation will be different compared to last year.
Marini then guaranteed that, given the new asphalt and the time of the race this year, the plan could change from the usual: ‘We’ll see how things go. I don’t think FP1 will be that crucial to understand everyone’s potential, but FP2 will be important because we have to test all the tyres that Michelin has brought us and it looks like it’s going to be a bit warmer than in March and even for the race we might have to change the front tyres […]’.
