Honda and Yamaha have lagged considerably behind European manufacturers in MotoGP in recent years, struggling to consistently compete for wins and podiums. According to Honda test rider Stefan Bradl, measures will be introduced to promote the development of the motorcycles in 2024.

The German rider told SPEEDWEEK.com that there will be rule changes next year, and disadvantaged manufacturers will have some concessions: ‘There will be rule changes for the next year, and disadvantaged manufacturers will have some concessions’.

Although he doesn’t have all the details, Bradl mentioned that these concessions are expected to primarily involve testing: ‘For the manufacturers who have fallen a bit behind, there will be some concessions, and it will mainly affect the testing program. I don’t know exactly how it will look like. All I know is that it will be introduced and has already been approved by the MSMA manufacturers’ association. Perhaps we will have more tyres because we are very limited as a team at the moment. Currently, we only have two test tracks in Europe, Jerez and Misano. No more are allowed. But we will position ourselves differently next year’.

The #6 admitted that he is likely to have a busier testing program in 2024: ‘The testing program next year certainly won’t be less for me but rather more and more intensive’.

It’s not just the World Superbike Championship that’s testing at the Circuito de Jerez Ángel Nieto today and tomorrow. There are three MotoGP riders on the track on Tuesday.

One of the riders is not identified by name on the live timing, but it is known to be from the HRC Test Team and is German, which naturally points to Stefan Bradl. At the moment, he has the best times among the MotoGP riders, currently in fifth place overall with one bike and seventh with another.

Lorenzo Savadori (Aprilia) is the second of the MotoGP test riders, ahead of Michele Pirro (Ducati).

Shortly after, also approaching turn one, Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda) crashed, being out of contention. Watch the incidents in the following video.
