Aleix Espargaró got a historic win yesterday at the MotoGP Catalan GP, securing a 1-2 finish for Aprilia. Racing at home, he beat the teammate Maverick Viñales with an overtake on the final laps.
During the press conference, the #41 described a challenging round, being under pressure by knowing he had a good chance to do a strong result: ‘I would love to stop the time and enjoy for a couple of weeks. It was an amazing weekend, because from the beginning I felt good on the bike. Obviously I was full of pressure because I knew I had a good opportunity, but you have to deal with this. So, it wasn’t an easy weekend’.
Regarding the race itself, Espargaró confessed that he had to risk being on the limit due to the conditions: ‘After the dramatic start – luckily everybody is ok – it was a difficult race. Maverick really pushed me to my limit, because due to the wind I wasn’t able to do my riding style like on Saturday, so I had to risk a lot to win’.
