Francesco Bagnaia approaches the MotoGP Thailand Grand Prix with a 27-point advantage over Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati) in the championship lead. The Ducati rider now faces rounds in which he is traditionally stronger after successfully going through three more challenging circuits.
The Italian rider expressed his satisfaction at leaving behind circuits that are less favorable to him, arriving at a track that has been good for him in the past: ‘Finally I’m happy to be here, because it’s one of the tracks where I was always competitive. We move from Japan, Mandalika and Australia, which are tracks where I was never so performant on a single lap – I was always doing a good job, but I was struggling always. So, we move on to tracks I really like. In this one we have a lot of braking and long corners and last year I was so competitive, so I’m very happy’.
At a press conference, faced with the fact the upcoming tracks theoretically favoring Ducati while the title fight is ongoing, Bagnaia pointed out that the same applies to the other riders from the same manufacturer who are in contention: ‘Let’s see, because it’s good for me, but also for the other Ducati riders and last year Jorge and [Marco] Bezz were very competitive here – also in Malaysia. So let’s see. We have just to see if we can have some advantage in terms of feeling and I’m quite sure that this track will help me a lot compared to Phillip Island. But let’s see. It’s always difficult to predict a weekend and the first goal will be not to be in Q1. So, let’s see’.
