Honda’s poor performance is what led Marc Marquez to announce with the team that in 2024 he will be with another team and another manufacturer (Gresini Racing, with the Ducati Desmosedici), and the rider himself was quick to say that if he knew how to solve the problems he wouldn’t leave the japanese giant. The spaniard also spoke about the problems with his current bike.
The year 2024 means a reunion with his brother Alex Marquez, but Marc admits that he wouldn’t leave his current team if the problems were solved, and when asked about the bike’s biggest faults he said that in his role he can only give feedback to the engineers: ‘It’s difficult to understand because if I had the key I would use it and continue with Honda. As a rider I have to give my feedback and tell the engineers where we’re losing, but I’m not an engineer to tell them where the problem is’.
Marquez then guaranteed that the team is working to improve: ‘We’re trying different things and the problems remain the same. We’ve tested a different torque character… They’re working hard but they need time to realise exactly where the problem is’, before talking about some aspects of the RC213V’s performance:
– At the exit of corners is where we lose the most, and where we gain is at the entrance, but it’s always a consequence. It’s like the typical rider’s comment: ‘I catch them under braking and under acceleration I fall behind’. This is also sometimes difficult to understand because if you enter a corner quickly you end up exiting, but if you enter slowly you can’t exit quickly because you lack traction and that’s where they’re trying to figure out how to improve for the future’.
