Fabio Quartararo returned to good results at the MotoGP Thai Grand Prix, finishing in fifth place. After starting from the tenth position and with a bike that wasn’t as competitive as the Ducatis, it was the best recovery possible for the Monster Energy Yamaha rider. He also gathered information and provided feedback to the team with the aim of improving for 2024.
The 2021 world champion was asked about the fact he apparently was able to overtake in this race, and he replied: ‘Only at the end. Today it was a positive day in one sense: I could really see our weak point and where we have to really improve. But I really enjoyed the race – missing a few things of course. But I’m pretty happy and hopefully we can make a step – especially for the next year’.
The race results comes after the best lap time in the warm-up, but Quartararo admitted that wasn’t possible to have the same kind of performance: ‘In the warm-up the grip was much better and you could see the pace of everyone was much faster. Hopefully we can have this feeling during the race, but also starting from tenth makes our live much more difficult – especially in the beginning of the race we struggle a little bit more. I gave some comments to Yamaha, so now it’s in their hands to really make the step forward for the next year’.
Regarding the improvements he considers that should be done, the #20 explained that it’s mainly for 2024: ‘There are still three races remaining. Of course it’s really important to make it for these last three races, but we have to really focus on these few areas for next year’.
