If Jorge Martín is MotoGP riders’ champion, Ducati will see his factory team’s rider – Francesco Bagnaia – lose a fight to a rival from a satellite team. In any case, the champion will be someone riding a Desmosedici GP23 and linked to the Borgo Panigale manufacturer.

Óscar Haro told Paddock TV that, if the Spaniard is the champion, Ducati will still have reasons to be satisfied: ‘Gigi Dall’Igna [Ducati Corse General Manager] has a different mentality. If Jorge Martin wins the World Championship, he will be happy because it will be a Ducati winning and because his project of trusting young and unofficial riders will win’.

There are three rounds left in the season and anything can happen in the fight for the title. Bagnaia leads only 13 points ahead of Martín, and with such small margins it is already evident that even during a GP everything can change.

In October, Marc Márquez announced his departure from Repsol Honda at the end of this MotoGP season, moving to Gresini. Now, the Japanese manufacturer has to fill the vacant seat, but it seems they may not be able to secure one of the most talented and experienced riders in the field.

Óscar Haro discussed the matter on Paddock TV and argued that if Honda offered a two-year contract, they might attract riders of a higher caliber to take the risk on their project:

They are thinking about which rider to place on the Honda. The problem that Honda has is that they make one-year contracts, so they talked to riders like Aleix Espargaró, Maverick Viñales, Miguel Oliveira… and none of them wants to leave Aprilia or Ducati to go to Honda for one year with a bike that still doesn’t work. We all know perfectly well which Honda works and why it works. If they offered a two-year contract, someone like Viñales or Aleix Espargaró might be willing to go to Honda for two years.

Jorge Martín has a direct contract with Ducati, but it seems that in 2024, he will compete again with the Pramac satellite team, with current factory material available. However, some argue for a swap with Enea Bastianini and a promotion to the official team after his performance this year, where he is fighting for the title alongside Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati).

Óscar Haro is one of those who supports Martín’s promotion to Ducati. The former LCR Honda member told Paddock TV that this would be the ideal move for the Borgo Panigale manufacturer, even anticipating a title fight between the Spanish rider and Marc Márquez:

If Ducati doesn’t put Martín on the red bike, I think I don’t understand anything. Next year, the World Championship will be contested by Martín and Marc Márquez. With both of them in a non-official team, Ducati is risking not winning the World Championship again with an official bike. It would be smart to take someone like Jorge Martín. They can’t take Marc because he has a contract with Gresini. What do they have to do? Take Jorge Martín. Put Bastianini in Pramac because otherwise, there’s a big risk; the rider to beat next year is Jorge Martín. Putting Martín on the red bike would be the smartest move.

Óscar Haro, a seasoned observer and commentator in the MotoGP arena, has shared his insights on the current championship battle and the potential shifts in the paddock for the upcoming season. He begins by discussing the current title contenders, Pecco Bagnaia and Jorge Martín, and extends his commentary to the future of Honda and Ducati’s team strategies.

Haro stands by Bagnaia’s leadership, quoting the legendary Ángel Nieto, “It’s not difficult to be first; the hard part is staying there.” He points out the transient nature of Martín’s leadership in the championship, which lasted only 24 hours, and the immense pressure that comes with being at the top, which he believes has affected Bagnaia’s performance and confidence.

An important distinction Haro makes is that Martín has not yet felt the pressure of leading the championship for an extended period, unlike Bagnaia, who is currently experiencing the weight of being in the first position. Haro suggests that Martín is enjoying his ride more than Bagnaia, who is under the stress of maintaining his lead. When asked who deserves to win the championship, Haro’s choice is Jorge Martín, despite acknowledging that Martín has yet to prove himself as a consistent leader.

Haro calls for an official seat for Martín, arguing that if Ducati does not promote Martín to the official team, they are missing a significant opportunity. He predicts that next year’s championship will be a duel between Martín and Marc Márquez. With Márquez contracted with Gresini, Haro believes the smart move for Ducati would be to secure Martín in the official team and place Enea Bastianini in Pramac to mitigate the risk of not winning the championship with an official bike.

Discussing Honda’s situation, Haro reflects on the loss of Marc Márquez, attributing it to the Japanese manufacturer’s rigid approach to management and planning. He believes that Honda is already looking ahead to 2025, seemingly unconcerned with the immediate loss of Márquez.

The vacant seat at Repsol Honda for 2024 is a topic of concern, with Haro criticizing Honda’s strategy of offering only one-year contracts, which has deterred riders like Aleix Espargaró, Viñales, and Oliveira from leaving their current teams for a potentially unstable stint with Honda. He suggests that a two-year contract might entice riders to take the risk.

Haro also recalls the negative experiences of riders who have joined Honda for a single year, such as Jorge Lorenzo, Pol Espargaró, and Alex Márquez, whose careers suffered as a result. He questions the wisdom of leaving a successful team for a one-year contract with Honda, especially when the best bike on the grid is struggling to make the top three.

In conclusion, Haro’s commentary provides a candid look at the dynamics of MotoGP’s championship battles and the strategic decisions that could shape the future of the sport’s leading teams and riders.

Óscar Haro recently engaged in a captivating discussion on Paddock TV, addressing various facets of the MotoGP championship. Haro, always abreast of the latest happenings in the championship, seized the opportunity to share his insights, especially as the season has crossed its halfway mark.

A significant topic of discussion revolved around the future of Marc Márquez. Haro believes that Japan might be the nation where all speculations will be put to rest. He mentioned, “I think Marc Márquez is awaiting a meeting with Honda. After the Misano test, he was quite upset. They introduced a new aerodynamic feature, but with the 2023 engine. I feel it’s a 50/50 situation,” Haro shared, hinting at the uncertainty surrounding Márquez’s future.

Haro also touched upon what he termed as the “third option” for Márquez. He suggested that while Dorna hasn’t provided KTM with two additional bikes, it would be a strategic move for Gresini, already a part of MotoGP, to join forces with KTM, backed by Marc and official sponsors Red Bull and Allianz.

The championship’s current state was another hot topic. With Jorge Martín tightening the competition, the championship promises excitement throughout the Asian tour. Haro commented on Pecco Bagnaia’s challenges since Barcelona, especially concerning tire pressures. He believes Bagnaia is not entirely satisfied with the current pressure limits.

Haro concluded by praising Bagnaia’s skills, stating, “For me, Pecco is the number one this year in the championship. When everything aligns for him, his riding style is intimidating. However, winning a championship is not just about being the strongest on the track but also mentally. While Bagnaia and Ducati deserve all the credit, he isn’t a Marc Márquez or a Valentino Rossi. He’s incredibly strong but doesn’t create an astonishing difference.”

Surprise move in the MotoGP riders market ahead. Marc Márquez is reportedly leaving Repsol Honda, and he won’t be alone – he’s taking Repsol and Red Bull, his two main sponsors, with him.

The destination? Gresini Racing. If confirmed, the six-time champion would be riding a Ducati but would be part of a satellite team for the first time. And, as a teammate, he would have his brother Álex Márquez.

The rumor comes from a source as credible as Óscar Haro. On social media, the former LCR Honda member stated: ‘Big bomb that has just been told to me: Marc Márquez is going to Gresini Racing, with his brother Álex Márquez, surely with Red Bull, Repsol, and Estrella Galicia’.

Struggling to be competitive, this would be a significant blow to Honda’s project, losing two important sponsors and partners, in addition to their decade-long reference rider. However, for now, it’s all speculation and Márquez himself has a valid contract until the end of 2024 season.
