Last season the Australia GP wasn’t exactly the best for Brad Binder, with the rider finishing the race in 14th place. The south african didn’t forget such result and is set to change it this season, looking forward to return to the good results he had in other years.

‘This weekend it’s always exciting to be back on Island, it is a really cool place in general and I love coming here. In general is it a cool place but the track is always awesome and is a place that has been good to me in the past, except for last year. Last year was extremely tough’, KTM rider on his preview, before saying what his wish is, and showing to be happy with the weather forecast:

– I bet on changing that and going back to other years. In general everything is being quite good. It seems we will have solid weather up until sunday so best if we enjoy it all weekend and see what happens. There isn’t much to say.

Red Bull KTM Team closed this sunday with both of their riders well inside the top ten, and Francesco Guidotti regretted the team couldn’t reach the results that the team could have.

The Team Manager of the team addressed Jack Miller’s race – seventh position – as follow: ‘An intense race. For Jack it was solid. He recovered ground to the leaders then kept the position. He suffered a bit with the front tyre with ten laps to go but kept steady and finished with some points. It was difficult and the tyre choice was not clear but he made the right decision for himself’.

Then he looked at the performance from Brad Binder, sixth, and the two big moments of the south african which saw himself involved in two racing incidents, with Luca Marini crashing, and then after with Miguel Oliveira. These incidents meant the #33 had two Long Lap penalties:

Brad finished 6th with two long laps! A very fast race for him. It was some shaking at Turn 8 which meant he was missing some braking potential into Turn 9 and hit Luca Marini; we apologize for that but it was something out of our control. Strange contact also the second time.

Guidotti ended with a word towards the team performance which, he believes, was worthy of another result: ‘We showed our potential again but we could not catch what we could and what we deserved‘.

Today’s race is likely to stay in Jorge Martin’s memory for a long time. After taking the lead in the world championship yesterday, the Pramac rider was leading this Sunday’s long race by almost 3s ahead of Maverick Viñales when he crashed, and explained that the dirt at turn 10 was what led to the crash right afterwards. However, the #89 isn’t giving up on the title battle.

Commenting on his GP Sunday, Martin began by recalling the strong start he had which catapulted him into first place before the first corner: ‘I had a great start and then I tried to increase the gap and then when I saw 2.8s I was very surprised and then I said to myself: “Ok now it’s time to stay calm’.

After being in the lead for 13 laps, Martin crashed and explained what happened and left a guarantee: ‘I went a bit wide at turn 10 and then it seems there was a bit of dirt and when I entered turn 11 I lost the front doing the same as I had done on the previous lap but… shit happens. I was still pushing the pace [at the time of the crash], there were still 14 laps to go and I was focussed on staying fast and I think I had an incredible race up to that point, I was the fastest at all times and so I have to stay calm and there are still 10 races to go, it’s a long way to go’.

Asked if he would choose the soft tyre again for the front, Martin had no doubts: ‘Yes, for sure. I was feeling really good and the problem there was the dirt at turn 10 which caused me to crash, and when I entered turn 11 I crashed’.

Francesco Bagnaia returned to the winning ways this sunday at Mandalika after beating Maverick Viñales who is still looking for his first win with Aprilia, as for Fabio Quartararo, he was again on the podium. The rider’s team bosses already reacted to the race results of this sunday.

Get to know their opinion on what happened with the riders, each from the podium.

Gigi Dall’Igna (Ducati/Francesco Bagnaia): ‘It’s unbelievable. it’s really unbelievable here. He recovered really well during the race and honestly I didn’t expected this kind of race: he pushed, pushed, pushed all the time and we are really really happy’.

Massimo Rivola (Aprilia/Maverick Viñales): ‘It was a real fight for Maverick, at a certain point we saw his rear tyre was gone. He managed well, his pace was consistent, didn’t have the pace from Pecco when he got him. Honestly I thought Fabio had more than him, so he was really good in defending. Wrong tyre choice for Aleix, completely and clearly’.

Massimo Meregalli (Yamaha/Fabio Quartararo): ‘Superb! The race has been long but not long enough, because maybe with a couple of more laps who knows how the race could have finished but I’m very happy. You know what we are dealing with, it is very tough and when you get to the podium anyway it’s a boost because of the work we are doing, even though it’s not visible, but I can garantee we are pushing like hell’.

Maverick Viñales came close to victory at the Indonesian GP today but was unable to hold onto the lead in the race and was eventually overtaken by Francesco Bagnaia. The spaniard regretted having been beaten by his opponent at the time, but overall he was pleased with second place.

In parc ferme, the Aprilia Racing rider reacted to his race like this: ‘I was doing so well, controlling the tyre but Pecco was a bit faster than me in that part of the race but I know from what I did yesterday that if I went out and pushed, pushed and pushed my rear tyre would go, so I just controlled it and the race was going in my favour’.

And he left words of thanks to the team: ‘I’m very happy and grateful for the work we’ve done, proud of my team. Thank you very much to all the Indonesian fans, they’ve been fantastic and we’re going to try in Australia. We have to enjoy it, it’s been a fantastic job’.

Mandalika hosted an absolutely dramatic MotoGP race! Francesco Bagnaia returned to victory and the lead of the world championship on a sunday full of intense moments, some desperate and nerve-wracking. Jorge Martín was comfortably leading the race when, without anyone expecting him to… he crashed and handed victory to Bagnaia on a plate. This GP could be decisive in the final accounts of the world championship.

The temperature was 31ºC, the ground 57ºC and more than 102,000 spectators in the stands ready to watch the Indonesian GP.

At the start, the highlight went to Jorge Martín, who went from sixth position to first and even got the holeshot. Francesco Bagnaia was keen to go on the attack and was already sixth and soon gained two more positions to get behind Fabio Quartararo (third) and Maverick Viñales (second).

Soon after, Luca Marini received a warning to do a Long Lap, but crashed shortly afterwards, on the second lap, after being touched by Brad Binder. Pol Espargaró also crashed in a separate accident and was out of the race.

With the first five laps completed Martín was leading by 1.594s over Viñales, Bagnaia was already third (+3.088s), Aleix Espargaró was fourth and Quartararo fifth.

In the meantime, Binder received notification that he would have to do a Long Lap after Race Direction found him guilty of Marini’s crash, and the South African was quick to do it, which dropped him to tenth place behind Marc Márquez.

Nine laps in and Miguel Oliveira, last year’s winner in Indonesia, was sixth, 2.145s behind Quartararo and Jack Miller just behind, threatening to overtake… which he did. Oliveira moved up to seventh and Miller was the best KTM rider on the track.

That was the top ten at this stage of the race:

Binder was once again under the spotlight and as he overtook Oliveira, he touched him and knocked the Portuguese off the track, a piece of the Portuguese rider’s bike fell off and… Oliveira lost a lot of positions. The incident was being analysed by Race Direction.

Back at the front of the race, Bagnaia was second but Viñales responded and moved into the lead and soon after… drama for Martín! With a three-second gap to second, the Pramac Spaniard and championship leader crashed at turn 11.

Binder was notified a few moments later that he would have to do another Long Lap after the incident with Oliveira, the second of the race.

Martín’s crash could have meant victory for Viñales, who had more than 1s on Bagnaia, and the Italian was virtually the new championship leader.

And Pramac’s bad luck didn’t stop there, after Johann Zarco also crashed, but not seriously.

With ten laps to go, Viñales was leading by 0.546s over Bagnaia, Quartararo was third and Fabio Di Giannantonio fourth, one of the best races for the Italian who is not yet guaranteed a place in the top category for 2024. Miller was fifth.

There was little more to tell in the following laps, with Binder being one of the highlights: the South African, with two Long Laps, was fifth… but Marco Bezzecchi didn’t let up, beating his opponent and climbing into the top five.

With two laps to go, everything was wide open: Bagnaia was defending against Viñales, with less than two tenths of a second separating the riders!

The race ended soon after with Bagnaia confirming his return to victory and the lead of the world championship.

No one could have predicted such crash, which put the rider out of the race and could even mean, further ahead, the loss of a championship title that was under Martin’s grasp, as Bagnaia continued on track… and even became to lead the race afterwards.

Today marked the arrival of Jorge Martin to the MotoGP world championship lead and despite this wasn’t necessarily a surprise to anyone, given the way Francesco Bagnaia didn’t sort things out in the qualifying, it is nothing new for Marc Marquez who, again, say it was his fellow spaniard who will take the championship win.

After today’s Sprint race in Mandalika where Martin continued his winning streak, the former world champion recalled his words after the Japanese GP without forgetting the current world champion, Bagnaia: ‘Well, I was going to tell you, Martin is going to win, but I said it in Japan and I repeat it. Because Bagnaia was having the pressure of being Champion and being obliged to revalidate the title by being in the factory team, to stay at the top costs’.

The fact that the #89 is also feeling with less weight on his back is also important, he believes: ‘Martin has nothing to lose, he has that release, it is the first time he is leading a World Championship, it will not affect him, he is relaxed, he will do everything, if he wins well and if not, he will win too’.

Almost before it started… it was over for Marc Marquez in this saturday’s Sprint race. The rider crashed early on and explained that it was a mistake from him that led to such premature ending.

‘Eleven corners go fast (laughs), even though it’s the Sprint and not a Championship race, it was the shortest Sprint of my life. Usually the first few laps are one of my strong points, where I always push, and a large percentage of the time I always get it right, or almost always’, he began to say about his crash, adding after that it wasn’t such a big deal to speak about, confessing it was nothing but a mistake from him:

– Today was one of those days when it went wrong, I pushed in turn 11, I slid a little bit and when I got back in front «bam», my mistake, it was no big deal.

Marquez then addressed the track conditions, and said that today everyone suffered a bit, with the times being a bit slower: ‘We started on Friday with the track slipping, that the grip of the track is setting the limit and you can’t really push the bike. That’s where we were closest, with good paces. Today everyone dropped a second pace and we started to suffer more and we are far away. In the Sprint Race, even if I hadn’t crashed, I would have hardly taken any points, I think I would have been behind Bagnaia, or with Oliveira, because I saw the rhythms and my pace was like that’.
