Hogwarts Legacy is looking to be the definitive Harry Potter gaming experience, allowing fans of the Wizarding World to live out their fantasies at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. From what’s been shown so far, it appears as though Hogwarts Legacy is going to let players live out a genuine Hogwarts experience, choosing their preferred House, going to classes, learning spells, and more. However, one popular game mode will be missing from the experience.
While it had been assumed for some time, it’s now been outright confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy will not have Quidditch. Quidditch, for the uninitiated, is a Wizarding World sport played on broomsticks. Quidditch has played a key role in Harry Potter books, films, and video games, and so it’s exclusion from Hogwarts Legacy comes as a surprise. At the time of this writing, no reason has been given as to why Quidditch is not playable in Hogwarts Legacy.
Harry Potter fans may be disappointed to learn that they won’t be able to play Quidditch in Hogwarts Legacy, but on the bright side, they will still be able to fly brooms. It was confirmed long ago that Hogwarts Legacy lets players fly on brooms, and they will be able to do so for traversal as well as for completing broom race challenges. Brooms can help Hogwarts Legacy players better explore Hogwarts Castle, and they should prove to be quite helpful, even if they can’t be used to play Quidditch.
There will be other mounts in Hogwarts Legacy besides brooms. The full scope of Hogwarts Legacy‘s mounts are unknown at the time of this writing, but we do know that players will be able to travel on the backs of magical creatures like hippogriffs and thestrals. In fact, one of the Hogwarts Legacy pre-order bonuses is a thestral. It’s possible other thestrals will be obtainable in-game without pre-ordering, but finer details like that have yet to be clarified.
Fans have learned a lot about Hogwarts Legacy since its initial reveal in 2020, with Warner Bros. Interactive significantly ramping up its promotional efforts for the game. Fans have been treated to extensive Hogwarts Legacy gameplay presentations, and they’ve also been given a look at what’s coming in the game’s Collector’s Edition. And as luck would have it, more Hogwarts Legacy news could be coming in the very near future.
A new PlayStation State of Play event is rumored to be happening at some point in September. The event has not been announced at the time of this writing, but if it does happen, one has to imagine that a Hogwarts Legacy appearance is likely.
Hogwarts Legacy launches February 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X with a Switch version also in development.
