LUPIN THE 3rd vs CAT’S EYE Crossover Anime Premieres on Amazon Prime Video in 2023

A crossover anime project featuring LUPIN THE 3rd and Cat’s Eye will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video worldwide in 2023. Titled LUPIN THE 3rd VS CAT’S EYE, the anime will mark the 50th anniversary of the LUPIN THE 3rd anime and the 40th anniversary of Cat’s Eye

The production team for the crossover anime also shared a new teaser visual featuring the lead characters, as well as a 43-second PV trailer. 

Kanichi Kurita reprises his iconic voice role as Lupin III while Keiko Toda returns to voice  Cat’s Eye heroine Hitomi Kisugi. 

The production staff will consist of Kobun Shizuno (Godzilla) and Hiroyuki Seshita (Levius chief director) as directors, Keisuke Ide as assistant director, Shuuji Kuzuhara as scriptwriter, Haruhisa Nakata (Fairy Gone original character designer) and Junko Yamanaka (Kono Oto Tomare! Sounds of Life character designer) as character designers, and Naoya Tanaka (Drifting Dragons) and Ferdinando Patulli (Levius) as production designers. Yuuji Oono (Lupin the 3rd Part 6) and Kazuo Ootani (Cat’s Eye) are composing the musical score. TMS Entertainment is in charge of the animation production. 

The LUPIN THE 3rd franchise is based on Monkey Punch’s action-comedy manga of the same name. It was published from August 10, 1967 to May 22, 1989 in Futabasha’s Weekly Manga Action magazine. 14 tankoubon volumes have been released in total. The manga most recently released inspired the LUPIN THE 3rd PART 6 anime series. 

It has also spawned many manga sequels, spinoffs, television series, films, and OVAs. A 2014 live-action film adaptation was also released. LUPIN THE 3rd has also had a crossover with the Detective Conan anime series in 2009.

Cat’s Eye is based on the manga series by City Hunter creator Tsukasa Houjou that ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from June 16, 1981 to January 15, 1985. It was published under the Jump Comics imprint, with 18 tankoubon volumes released in total and several reprints being issued in later years. The series inspired two television anime seasons that ran from 1983 to 1985 and a 1997 live-action film adaptation.
