Fabio di Giannantonio secured his first MotoGP victory yesterday, but he remains at serious risk of not having a place for the next season. He was once considered the top choice for Repsol Honda, but indications suggest that Luca Marini will replace Marc Márquez… leaving the last available seat at Mooney VR46 Racing Team.
Valentino Rossi’s team aims to recruit a young talent from Moto2, such as Fermín Aldeguer, but di Giannantonio’s manager is striving to secure a spot for his rider. According to GPOne.com, Diego Tavano aims to formalize an agreement, with VR46 reportedly favoring this move.
If this option falls through, the plan would shift toward negotiating with a manufacturer to make the Italian a third rider. There have been discussions with Aprilia Racing’s CEO, Massimo Rivola. Lorenzo Savadori currently serves as the test rider for the Noale-based manufacturer, but even with wildcards and substitute rider appearances, he lacks the MotoGP racing experience that di Giannantonio could bring.
