In 2021 and 2022 Pol Espargaró was at MotoGP with Repsol Honda colours and recalling that time, the rider spoke of his change from KTM to the japanese manufacturer saying he deeply believe he would do well, recalling what lead him to make such move.
Speaking to DAZN, the GASGAS rider recalled his move from KTM to Honda, decided back in 2020, to take place in the two following years: ‘I chose the Honda path when I knew it was one of the most complicated, knowing that it wasn’t going well and with a big penalty for leaving. I didn’t leave because of money, but because of the ego that we riders have and that leads us to make mistakes. I really wanted to succeed at Honda, and I believed that this was the necessary step’.
This move also came because Espargaro was feeling «too comfortable», saying he deeply believed he was going to do well: ‘The change to Honda when I felt better at KTM, there I felt indestructible. ‘these next two years are going to be my years’, but what happened happened, many crashes, injuries… And I arrived at GasGas and I said, my redemption… And then came Portimao. They have not been my best three years’.
